Massachusetts Roommate Lease Agreement

The Massachusetts Room Rental Agreement (Roommate) form is a contract between the roommates who sign it. The existence of such a document creates the conditions for an organized cohabitation where the rules of cohabitation were discussed, agreed upon, documented and then signed in the same premises. In general, it is considered wise to take such measures, as they help roommates avoid misunderstandings or confusions about the responsibilities that each is willing to fulfill when entering into the contract. The signing of the roommate provided by each party imposes on that person the content of the agreement (terms, etc.), as it is a mandatory agreement in the Massachusetts State Court. We (the undersigned) signed a lease for 777 State Street, Ann Arbor, MI, on January 1, 2020, valid until December 31, 2020, for a rental price of $1,200 per month. We hope to ensure that the responsibility for the rental will be shared equally by all the roommates. That is why we are signing this agreement. All of the above notifications must be sent to your roommate in accordance with Massachusetts law. This basically means that you or someone on your behalf will have to deliver the message directly to your roommate. Shipping is not enough. Before signing a contract with one or more roommates, a roommate should understand their tenant rights under Massachusetts law. The Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs – Business Regulation has developed a guide called „Tenant Rights and Responsibilities,“ which provides an overview of what a tenant can and cannot do while bound by a rental agreement. This can be particularly useful when developing a contract between roommates, since a concept cannot be included in the agreement if it conflicts with any of the rights contained in the guide.

Whether or not your roommate contests the eviction, be absolutely ready for your trial. If your first trial is scheduled, be sure to bring all your evidence to show the judge. Be sure to bring statements of account showing your roommate`s previous rent payments, as well as proof that you paid your landlord the full monthly rent. This will help you establish an agreement between you and your roommate. If you are trying to dislodge your roommate because of another violation of your subletting, bring all the evidence you need to show the judge that she violated the subletting. For example, if it physically damages the apartment, bring photos. Step 7 – The „Additional Agreements“ section contains several fields. Each of these topics is a topic that may have written an additional chord between roommates. If so, tick a box next to the corresponding title for this additional agreement and attach it to this document. The monthly lease in Massachusetts, „Rent at will,“ is a lease agreement between a landlord and a tenant who does not have a specific deadline. The contract is renewed at each tenant`s monthly payment.

Even if the contract is renewed only by the tenant`s payments, both parties must inform the other person in writing before the termination of the tenancy agreement.
